Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo Introduces the 400 Years History of Japan’s Traditional Art
The 39th Arita and Imari Porcelain Exhibition – The Old and the New in Harmony

TOKYO -The Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo(KPH), one of Japan’s most prestigious international hotels located in Shinjuku, Tokyo, will host “the 39th Arita and Imari Porcelain Exhibition –The Old and the New in Harmony” from July 1 (Monday) to August 5 (Monday), 2019, introducing to guests the Arita and Imari porcelain, the first ceramics made in the southern island of Kyushu, Japan. “Ko-Imari” (“Ko-Imari” means old-Imari) porcelain which became popular art items amongst European aristocrats during the 17th century Edo Period and beautiful porcelain items made by the renowned pottery makers that have evolved over the 400 years history of the art will be on display. Space producer and Japan Party Planner Association Chairman Yoko Maruyama and her associates will create special coordinated table settings using porcelain dishes to demonstrate how to beautifully integrate porcelain into daily lifestyles for the enjoyment of exhibition participants. Furthermore, on July 25 (Thursday), Professor Masaaki Arakawa of Gakushuin University, who specializes in the study of Japanese ceramics history, will provide a lecture regarding the various potteries displayed throughout our Hotel.

This year marks the 39th time that this fair has been held, and is a reflection of the strong interest in Arita and Imari porcelain products. This exhibition is also designed to provide our international guests, who account for over 75% of total guests, with an opportunity to experience the beauty of Japan’s traditional Arita and Imari porcelain products. Many porcelain products will be available for sale as a souvenir.

Collaborated with Gallery Maesaka Seitendo, art items representing the Ko-Imari (from 17th century to 19th century) will be displayed in exhibition. Also, eight renowned and modern porcelain makers from the Arita and Imari regions of Saga Prefecture in Kyushu will display their products and be available for sale. In addition, seven of our restaurants will serve specially prepared foods using Arita and Imari porcelain. Many guests can purchase porcelain products after dining at our restaurants and actually seeing and feeling how they are used to accentuate foods.
