The Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo has led the hotel industry with its various efforts to provide guests with universal design facilities and services since accepting the 1988 World Congress of Rehabilitation International. In addition to providing universal design facilities including toilets specifically designed to accommodate assistance dogs, our specially trained Hotel staff have provided services catering to the special needs of our guests to make their stays with us more enjoyable and comfortable. Based upon the opinions and suggestions of our guests, the renovations to our universal design rooms are designed to provide our guests with comfortable stays at our Hotel and also include rapidly evolving technologies and services in the realm of universal design.
◆Barrier Free Spirit
The Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo was selected for registration as one of 150 companies in the 2018 “Barrier Free Spirit Campaign”, sponsored by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, and within this group of companies was recognized as a “Good Practice Company” for its sustained superior efforts to raise awareness of the need to promote barrier free measures including both facilities and services.
◆“The Valuable 500” initiative(*)
Our efforts include not only facilitation of universal design guest rooms and installation of supplementary toilet functions for assistance dogs, but also training of each of our individual staff to provide heartfelt and appropriate services to guests, active implementation of various projects, and other efforts to improve the level of our universal services. We endorse the values of “The Valuable 500” and promote the following activities explained below.
Keio Plaza Hotel’s Commitment
・Create a comfortable and safe hotel environment for a wide range of guests including those with or without disabilities so that they can enjoy their stays with us
・Promote efforts to eliminate various physical and emotional barriers to allow our employees to provide the most appropriate and heartfelt services to each and every guest.
・Our project team called “Birds Eye” will continue its activities to promote the implementation of various barrier-free and universal design facilities and functions within our Hotel.
・Measures will be conducted to improve the workplace environment for both employees with and without disabilities.
・The Keio Plaza Hotel will actively inform the public of our activities relating to “The Valuable 500” initiative through our public relations functions.
(*) “The Valuable 500” is a global movement formed on January 24, 2019 at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting with the goal of promoting various efforts to include persons with disabilities in business activities of private sector corporations. These efforts are also designed to unlock the business, economic and social value of people living with disabilities by “creating businesses and societies that include disabled persons”.
◆“Volunteer Plaza” Societal Contribution Event
The Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo has host a societal charity event entitled “Volunteer Plaza”. This annually held event has been very popular for its charity lunch, hotel shop charity sales, sign language concert and other various events. Also, members of Miss Nippon, which maintains its office in our Hotel, will join our volunteers to encourage people to participate in our blood drive, bone marrow donor registration, and fund-raising activities.
◆Relationship with producers
Chefs visit farmers and fishing ports to select fresh vegetables and seafood. Savour handcrafted organic vegetables that have strong aroma and flavors; and enjoy a creation of the freshest Japanese local seafood dishes. Japanese Cuisine Restaurant, Kagari, respects the nourishment and comfort that naturally produced food gives us.
The philosophy of the Keio Plaza Hotel is to create a ‘plaza’ where people can gather and relax. In accordance with a new sense of value and diversity, we will continue to adapt to meet the needs of new generations. We will continuously strive to be a plaza where people meet and gather over the next 50 years.
◆”Plaza Pride Cocktail”
We offered the cocktails feature a colorful rainbow flag motif, with each hue representing a unique meaning from May 29 to July 31, 2023.
“Plaza Philosophy” has been ingrained since our inception, and it resonates with the surrounding Shinjuku community, which has a rich history of embracing LGBTQ+ culture and values.
