Celebrating Our 50th Year of Operations with Special Exhibitions Showing Photographs Depicting Scenes of Our Interiors, Advertising from the Start of Our Operations “The 50 Year Story of the Keio Plaza Hotel”

TOKYO -The Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo(KPH), one of Japan's most prestigious international hotels located in Shinjuku, Tokyo, will celebrate its 50th anniversary of operations on June 5 (Saturday), 2021 with various events including a special commemorative photograph exhibition entitled “The 50 Year Story of the Keio Plaza Hotel” to be held between April 22 (Thursday), 2021 to June 28 (Monday), 2021. This exhibition will display fixed position observation pictures and a georama of the western Shinjuku district. In addition, pictures of the highly innovative interiors created by industry leading designers, advertisements targeting overseas guests, and pictures of various scenes of our guests from around the world from the time of our opening to the present day will be displayed to help commemorate our 50th year of operations.

As part of this event, a special display entitled “Vibrant Western Shinjuku District, 3 Dimensional Georama and 2 Dimensional Photographs - 50 Year Story” reflecting the dynamic changes of the western Shinjuku district of Tokyo, now famous for its numerous high rise buildings, over the 50 year period since the Keio Plaza Hotel first started its operations in 1971 will be on display in the 3rd floor Art Lobby. This exhibition includes fixed point observation photographs taken by Motoo Nakanishi, a renowned corporate identity strategy consultant, and an elaborate three dimensional georama representation of the western Shinjuku district.

Also in the 3rd floor Main Lobby area, large 3 by 4 meter photograph panels and displays of various innovative interior decorations of our Hotel around the time of its opening and created by industry leading designers and artists specializing in the “Japanese Modern” style of interior design, established by the renowned designer Isamu Kenmochi, show how our highly innovative interiors sent shock waves through the industry. We will also display a massive art object in the shape of a heart to represent our staffs’ appreciation for all of our guests during our 50 years of operations.

As another part of the event, another special exhibition of various magazine and other publicity articles and advertising designs entitled “50 Year Tradition of Our Passion for Hospitality” will be on display from May 1, 2021 in the 2nd and 3rd floor lobbies of the South Tower. Also, various articles and advertisements reflecting our proactive efforts to disseminate information about our hotel to overseas guests since our opening will also be on display for our guests to enjoy.

2) “Relaxation and Elegance - Art & Interior Design From Our Opening in 1971” from April 22 (Thursday) to June 28 (Monday), 2021
Various pictures of our Hotel's innovative interior designs created by industry leading designers and artists specializing in the “Japanese Modern” style of interior design, established by the renowned designer Isamu Kenmochi, from around the time of our opening. Tapestries created by the renowned textile designer Hiroshi Awatsuji will adorn our exhibition space walls from floor to ceiling, and innovative visual mapping images created by a leading graphic designer Kenji Ito will be shown on the interiors of our Sky Lounge and other dining facilities of our Hotel.

3) “50 Year Tradition of Our Passion for Hospitality” from May 1 (Saturday) to June 28 (Monday), 2021
The Keio Plaza Hotel has taken proactive steps to disseminate information about our hotel to overseas guests ever since our opening. We will also display photographs of various scenes of guests from within and outside of Japan, which have appeared in our advertising and public

4) “Connecting Peoples' Hearts – Plaza Full of Smiles” from May 1 (Saturday) to June 28 (Monday)
The Keio Plaza Hotel has selected a large art object in the shape of a heart that has been created by the artist Koichi Nishimura, renowned for his art patterned in the shape of hearts, to represent the heartfelt appreciation of our staff for the 50 years of patronage by our guests. As though portraying one page from the book of lives of each and every one of our precious guests, the heart shaped art object will be warmly illuminated to reflect the warmth we feel towards our guests.
