Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo Becomes Japan's First High Rise Hotel
To Registered as a “Japan's Top 100 Most Beautiful Moon Viewing Sites”

TOKYO - Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo (KPH), one of Japan's most prestigious international hotels located in Shinjuku, Tokyo, is first high rise hotel where guests are able to see the moon rise to be registered as one of “Japan's Top 100 Most Beautiful Moon Viewing Sites”. To commemorate this registration, two of our bar lounges are preparing original cocktails created in the image of the moon, which represents traditional aesthetic beauty in Japanese culture.

Kazuaki Ishibe, Manager of the Sky Lounge “Aurora” located on the 45th floor of our hotel, prepares his award winning “Moon au Lait” cocktail, which was selected as “Cocktail of The Year” in the “Suntory The Cocktail Award”. This legendary cocktail uses a delectable and soothing combination of coffee liqueur and herb scented milk. Also, guests are treated to spectacular panoramic nighttime views from the Sky Lounge “Aurora” located 160 meters above ground that enable them to see both the Tokyo Skytree® and the Tokyo Tower, which have also been selected as “Japan's Top 100 Most Beautiful Moon Viewing Sites”.

Our “Cocktail and Tea Lounge” serves “Brilliant Moon - Splendid Evening”, an original citrus fruit flavored cocktail using crescent shaped grapefruit peel created for this commemorative certification of registration. Also, beautiful pottery created by Yusuke Aida, one of Japan's most renowned pottery artists, and designed in the image of “Beautiful Moon Night, Mountains Draped in Sea of Clouds” is on display along the fringe of the garden adjacent to the “Cocktail and Tea Lounge”. This garden will be lit up to provide a fantastical view for guests to enjoy while tasting our brilliant cocktails using gold leaf and other lavish ingredients.

The moon symbolizes Japanese traditional aesthetic beauty and romanticism, and is reflected in Japanese literature by the symbolic quote of the famous novelist Souseki Natsume “the moon is beautiful”, which is a romantic way of saying “I love you”. Also, Diana Brueton's novel entitled “Many Moons”, which was translated into Japanese by the psychological astrologist and translator Ryuji Kagami, demonstrates how the moon has played an important role for humanity from long ago, and how it influences human emotions and maternal instincts to this day. This commemoration is designed to provide guests with opportunities to enjoy the allure of the moon.
