雨具:Amagu (Rain apparel)

June is a very rainy month in much of Japan. During this wet season, the many sudden showers make rain apparel both necessary and convenient. Called amagu, items used to ward off the rain include umbrellas, rain coats, and rain boots. Amagu used to be designed solely based on practicality, but recently more emphasis has been placed on fashion.
Umbrellas with numerous different colors and designs can be found in many price ranges. It is increasingly common to have several umbrellas, so as to coordinate them with different clothing styles.
Rain boots used to be considered so unstylish that only children and those working outdoors wore them. However, they have become more in vogue as items of fashion. Some versions are even heeled, making them popular among young women.
Up-and-coming items include umbrellas with special patterns that emerge when rain falls on them. As people prepared for this year’s rainy season, fashionable amagu throughout Japan.
